In a bit of a surprise, Caleb Herring has entered the transfer portal. The junior EDGE rusher posted four sacks this past season, playing in rotation with Jordan Ross and Joshua Josephs. With one season of eligibility
left, Herring will look for a new opportunity.
The former 4-star prospect started the year hot, registering a sack against Georgia and two more against Mississippi State. Herring only recorded three tackles in the last four games of the season, however.
With Joshua Josephs moving on to the NFL, Tennessee will turn to Jordan Ross on the EDGE. New EDGE coach Andrew Jackson will be tasked with building this room, which suddenly lacks some depth. Tennessee has already been connected to Penn State EDGE rusher Chaz Coleman, who is a former 5-star recruit. Keep an eye on that name over the next several days.
Tennessee is also bringing in a loaded defensive line/EDGE group in the class of 2026 following a strong close during the early signing period.
Herring was the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Tennessee during the 2023 recruiting cycle. The 6-5, 245 pound pass rusher never quite lived up to the hype though, playing behind Josephs and James Pearce for his entire time in Knoxville.
Herring committed to Tennessee over offers from Miami, Georgia and USC back in 2022.
