For months, and really on-and-off since returning her to her babyface roots at WrestleMania 40, WWE’s teased and toyed around with the idea of making Bayley a villain again.
Heading into Bayley and Lyra Valkyria’s latest shot at the Women’s Tag Team championship on the June 22 Raw from London, a heel turn definitely seemed to be in the air at O2 Arena. The former(?) Role Model seemed to have a bit of an edge during her pre-match moment with Valkyria…
Going
up against the champs Brie Bella and Paige in the latter’s native England was a steep challenge, and it’s one the challengers ultimately weren’t up to. Lyra took the pin after Paige countered her attempt at a second-straight fisherman’s buster into her finisher.
The set-up was there for Bayley to blame her protege for the loss, but as the veteran urged her partner that they’re the best, would get another chance and win the belts “next time”, it was the younger Irish wrestler who snapped.
At times it was hard to read if Valkyria was conflicted or incensed, but that may have just been this writer. Or it may have been Lyra’s intent. She continued behaving that way backstage.
The story is clearly not over, but what do you make of this turn in it?
