If Francis Ngannou is looking for another big boxing fight, he has interest from a fellow former MMA world champion: Fedor Emelianenko.
The 50-year old Russian was once considered the greatest heavyweight of the 2000s, and many consider him the greatest heavyweight of all time. That was a long time ago, though. Like most aging MMA fighters, Fedor stuck around a bit too long and finished his career with a 4-3 run in Bellator.
Now Emelianenko is interested in transitioning to boxing, which he says is much
less hard on his body. And his dream opponent? Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
“If we’re talking about being a downright dream, I’d be interested in fighting Francis Ngannou under boxing rules,” Emelianenko told Ushatayka. “I couldn’t manage MMA now because I have too many injuries, but I’d have a go at him in boxing. That’s just me thinking out loud. I never said we were in negotiations.”
Ngannou hasn’t fought since an appearance at MVP MMA 1, where he destroyed puffed up light heavyweight Phillipe Lins in the first round. That was his second MMA win since leaving the UFC and going 0-2 against boxing greats Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua).
While Ngannou is ‘in’ with MVP and Jake Paul, his name isn’t coming up much surrounding discussion for Paul’s Christmas Eve boxing match in Dubai. The Cameroonian doesn’t seem to exist in the plans of Turki Alalshikh since the Saudi boxing power broker partnered up with Ngannou’s nemesis Dana White.
With options dwindling, could Fedor vs. Francis actually come together?
