DNP: Still injured
DT Christen Miller
Miller returned to practice from his injury that he suffered against the Rams, which means he should be able to play in the Saints’ last preseason game. So far, Miller has arguably been the best rookie so far, and that’s even when he didn’t play in week 2 and missed a good amount of game 1. In the little time he has played, Miller looked like one of the best run defenders on the roster and really fit in Brandon Staley’s scheme.
For the young DT, he will not have to wait long to become
a starter. It’s clear how important he is to the defense, even if it’s just preseason.
TE Oscar Delp
TE Oscar Delp has had a slow start to his preseason and is now dealing with an injury. Not the best combination for a rookie, and even if the hamstring issue is minor, Delp is likely going to miss game 3.
OG Jeremiah Wright
Week 2 was a big test for rookie offensive lineman, and although the entire offensive line struggled (including Wright at times), he did decent. Not ready to start, but showed enough to feel good about his future.
Game three should be more of the same. Wright is likely going to start at RG, and again, it is going to be an opportunity for him to perform. If he continues to improve as he has, it could be the first time we see a starting-level performance out of him.
WRs Bryce Lance and Barion Brown
More standouts for the Saints roster, Bryce Lance and Barion Brown have been some of the most exciting players for New Orleans. Brown was sat for Week 2, which is a sign the Saints view him as a high-level starter going into the season, but Lance did play.
After being injured in Week 1, Lance had a big challenge ahead of him against the Rams, and he did do well. It wasn’t a big performance for him, only catching two passes, but those catches were good.
Game 3 is going to be fun to see both these players, but if the starters don’t play, Brown will likely be sat again.
DBs Lorenzo Styles Jr. and TJ Hall Jr.
It was not a good week for the Saints’ pass defense, and every player struggled, but Styles and Hall were able to get a pass deflection each. Still, clearly, these two players will likely be special teams players right away.
