In the end, all that matters is what happens on the field, but the Cleveland Browns have been fighting “the Browns is the Browns” for longer than anyone following the team would like to see. That often leads to everything getting highlighted, even if it doesn’t matter, like Shedeur Sanders’ media time this week or his hype video on Saturday.
With Cleveland locked into a close game with the New Orleans Saints, Sanders’ performance was under scrutiny, with the Browns offense only having 25 passing yards
at halftime. That is when another befuddling moment occurred, in the third quarter, as the broadcast repeated a conversation with HC Todd Monken before the game in which Sanders was requesting plays this week that were not in Cleveland’s playbook:
Monken “was laughing” helps a bit, but a bit surprising for Monken to share what would be considered by many as an embarrassing request by his starting quarterback.
Thankfully for the Browns, in the fourth quarter, Sanders found rookie WR KC Concepion for a 64-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown to give the Browns a 13-9 lead.
Was Monken’s comment just a joke? Was Sanders serious about wanting to install new plays this week? Does it really matter?
For a Cleveland franchise (and fanbase) that is sick of the past being held against them and repeated ad nauseam, it’s just a bit befuddling that Monken would share that with the broadcast team. The comment could become a talking point this week after the Browns lost in overtime, after going for a two-point conversion instead of a tie.
What do you think of Monken sharing this information with the broadcast?
