Multiple outlets report that Fresh Promotions will stage Subriel Matias’ mandatory super lightweight title defense against Dalton Smith on January 10th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, scheduling a November
10th press conference to confirm the news.
Mike Coppinger first reported the date last month and noted that Emmanuel Rodriguez, Jeyvier Cintron, and Alfredo Santiago would appear on the undercard. Their respective bouts will presumably also be announced at the aforementioned press conference; TBA currently has the assignment for all but Cintron, whom BoxRec claims will meet former super flyweight challenger Jonathan Rodriguez in a solid matchup.
Matias (23-2, 22 KO) will be kicking off his second title reign, having lost his IBF belt to Liam Paro last year before narrowly lifting the WBC title from Alberto Puello in July. He’s looked rather mortal of late compared to his scorched-earth campaign from 2020-2023, perhaps feeling the effects of his punishing style at 32, but represents a considerable step up in class for Sheffield’s Smith (18-0, 13 KO).
We’ll let you know as soon as they announce the broadcast details; you won’t want to miss this one.
