While the Denver Broncos are chasing the one seed, focusing on the playoffs, and have Super Bowl aspirations, other teams are preparing for change. With the 2025 regular season concluding on Sunday, we’ll see several Head Coaches get fired, and candidates for those openings emerge. One candidate who figures to be a popular one this coaching cycle is Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. His defense has been among the best in the NFL the past two seasons, his pass rush has led the NFL in sacks
now in back-to-back seasons, and the Broncos are on the verge of being the one seed in the AFC.
While candidates for these jobs are mostly speculative at this point, he has recently been linked to the vacant New York Giants head coaching job.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, who covers the New York Giants, dropped a list of possible head coaching candidates for the team, which included Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
Joseph spent two years as the coach of the Broncos in 2017 and 2018. He’s the current defensive coordinator in Denver, and his defensive expertise is viewed as an asset. It probably doesn’t hurt that he has a connection with Schoen from their time in Miami.
As Raanan notes, Joseph does have ties to the Giants’ general manager Joe Schoen from their time in Miami together, and they could view his expertise on defense as an asset.
Joseph has been labeled a “leader of men,” and his work on the defensive side of the ball speaks for itself. Like the Broncos, the Giants have a trio of talented pass rushers, but lack the scheme and coaching to put it all together. Edge rusher Brian Burns is one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. Kayvon Thibodeaux is a former early first-round pick who has flashed talent, and the Giants drafted with their 3rd overall pick this past April. Bringing Joseph in to work with this trio should be enticing for the Giants.
If Joseph does interview for the Giants’ job, I would anticipate offensive pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Davis Webb to be his potential offensive coordinator. His work with Bo Nix is noteworthy and is viewed as one of the top up-and-coming head coaching candidates in the NFL. Bringing him in to work with young quarterback Jaxson Dart in hopes of developing him like Nix should also be enticing for the Giants. On top of that, Webb is a former Giants player who has ties with the organization and likely would be a popular pick for that fanbase.
Most of this is just speculative right now, but the reality is that many of the coaches on the Broncos staff right now are going to be candidates for jobs elsewhere this offseason. We saw it last offseason and will again this offseason.
The Giants are not the only team that figures to have interest in Joseph. The Raiders, Dolphins, Cardinals, and others, if they move on from their current head coaches, will likely view him as a top candidate. We’ll know more in the coming days and weeks. Still, it figures to be a busy interview schedule for Vance Joseph and likely multiple other Broncos coaches.
