Jürgen Klopp is already making an effort to build a strong relationship with Jamal Musiala, and his latest gesture could be particularly important as the Bayern Munich star works his way back to full fitness.
Following Germany’s game against Heidenheim where Musiala suffered through his second consecutive neurological absence, Klopp reportedly called Musiala personally to ask about his health and offer his support. Rather than simply checking in on his recovery, the new Germany head coach wanted to make
sure Musiala understood exactly how important he is to the future of the national team.
According to the report from Sport Bild’s Julian Agardi (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Klopp wanted to give Musiala a positive feeling and encourage him during what has been a difficult period. The message from Klopp was apparently crystal clear — Musiala is a central part of Klopp’s plans for the future and that the DFB wants to help Musiala through his situation.
After the game against Heidenheim, Jürgen Klopp called Jamal Musiala, asked him about his health and showed him support. The new Germany head coach wanted to give Musiala a good feeling, encourage him, and make it clear to him: “You are a central part of my plans for the future. We are counting on you, and we will help you.” – Musiala was impressed by Klopp’s words.
After dealing with injury and a neurological issue that has interrupted his preparations for this season, having the new Germany coach personally reach out with that kind of reassurance could take some of the pressure off Musiala. Instead of feeling like he has to immediately prove himself upon returning, Musiala knows that Klopp already views him as a foundational piece of what he wants to build with Germany.
That could be an important relationship for both sides.
Musiala remains one of the most talented young players in world football, and Germany will need him at his best if Klopp is going to achieve his ambitions with the national team. For now, Klopp appears determined to make sure Musiala knows one thing — Germany is waiting for him and they believe in him.
