Let’s start at the end and work our way through a game week. In past seasons, KU has taken the day following a game off. The players got time to rest and recouperate before returning to the facility on Monday. That won’t be the case this season. Instead, KU is going to have players come in the day following the game, with the second day being an off day.
Dillon Davis at SI has a quick preview on Friday night’s
game against LIU:
The Sharks enter Friday’s contest at 0-1 on the year after losing their season opener to North Dakota 42-21 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, last weekend. The Sharks are picked to finish third in the NEC this year after finishing 4-3 in conference play (6-6 overall) in 2025.
Dillon Davis also has some information from Leipold on injuries the Jayhawks are dealing with, notably WR Cam Pickett:
“Don’t know yet where Cam (Pickett) will be at this time,” said Leipold. “We’ll know as the week goes on. He did not practice today.”
Picket is currently listed as one of three starters at wide receiver on the Game 1 depth chart released Monday morning. He is also the most experienced of all KU’s returning receivers from last season after catching 45 passes for 476 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt-junior in 2025.
The athletic department is hoping to capitalize on the hype generated around Lawrence hosting the Algerian team during the World Cup with their London game:
The initial decision to host Algeria brought plenty of questions and local adjustments, said Berk, but KU Athletics thinks it can expand the university’s international brand by taking calculated risks.
Bill Self has locked in an official visit from 4 star recruit Parker McDaniel:
Class of 2027 guard Parker McDaniel is expected to take an official visit to Lawrence during the weekend of Sept. 11-12, according to 247Sports recruiting analyst Eric Bossi.
Joshua Schulman at SI writes about a few of the other guys Bill Self has lined up for visits in September:
Malachi Jordan is the name to watch among this group. The top-20 forward has been linked to KU since last year and is considered a blue-chip prospect in the class.
Jalen White is more of an under-the-radar recruit who could develop into a solid wing at the collegiate level. Parker McDaniel is not listed but is a Class of 2028 3-point specialist who is taking an unofficial visit.
