While there have been transfers and rumors of USMNT players between clubs in Europe or from MLS across the pond, one player is set to come stateside following the World Cup. USMNT center back Mark McKenzie is reportedly re-joining the Philadelphia Union. According to ESPN, McKenzie will be a designated player and is set to transfer back to Philly in January of 2027. The move will come in time for him to feature in the MLS Sprint Season as the league transitions to a fall-spring calendar next year.
McKenzie played the full 90 against Türkiye but hasn’t established himself as a regular starter for the national team. Currently, he is with Toulouse in Ligue 1 following a stint with Belgian side Genk after moving from MLS. He has been a regular starter for the French side but has not established himself as a national team starter despite regularly being called up under former manager Gregg Berhalter and the recently renewed Mauricio Pochettino.
