Newcastle United has reportedly joined the race to sign a Manchester City forward and World Cup participant, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his attack with some proven players during a summer of major squad changes that have skewed too young for now.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle has held talks over a potential move for Egypt international Omar Marmoush, who could be available after slipping down the pecking order at Man City.
“Omar Marmoush is set for key talks with Manchester City over his
future amid growing interest from England and Germany, with TEAMtalk understanding both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are showing interest,” the report says. “We can reveal that Tottenham and Newcastle have both made enquiries about the versatile forward, while there is also significant interest from several Bundesliga clubs, who are keen to bring Marmoush back to Germany.”
Newcastle’s interest comes amid a rebuild following the departures of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur. Club captain Bruno Guimaraes has also been heavily linked with Arsenal, while Newcastle continues to pursue midfield reinforcements after signing Sean Steur from Ajax and whiffing on landing Johan Manzambi.
TEAMtalk reports that Marmoush has emerged as a forward target for the Magpies, with Newcastle looking to add an experienced attacking option to their corps.
The 27-year-old joined Man City from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth a humongous €75 million but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, and his value has now dropped to €50 million, per Transfermarkt.
Despite enjoying limited opportunities, Marmoush has produced 16 goals and six assists in 61 appearances for City after arriving midway through the 2025 season.
Before moving to England, Marmoush starred for Eintracht Frankfurt, registering 37 goals and 20 assists in 67 appearances.
The report also notes that Newcastle remains in the market for attacking reinforcements such as Marmoush, mostly because of the inconsistent seasons from Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa following Alexander Isak’s last-minute, record-breaking departure last year.
“They are also in the market for attacking reinforcements after Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa both failed to make the expected impact last season,” the report says. “Marsmoush’s ability to play as a striker, second striker or winger are viewed as major positives by Tottenham and Newcastle.”
At this stage, however, no formal bid, let alone any sort of agreement between both clubs, has been reported, and it remains very unclear whether Man City would be willing to part with Marmoush or even if the player would welcome a move to Tyneside.
