Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has named his squad for World Cup 2026 and has included a host Barcelona players on his list.
The big news is that Gavi has been given the nod after returning to full fitness with Barcelona, Joan Garcia is also included after a brilliant season and Eric Garcia’s fine form for the Catalans has also been rewarded.
Here are the 26 players selected:
Goalkeepers: Unai Simon, David Raya, Joan Garcia
Defenders: Marc Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo, Pau Cubarsi, Aymeric Laporte,
Marc Pubill, Eric Garcia, Marcos Llorente, Pedro Porro
Midfielders: Pedri, Fabian Ruiz, Martin Zubimendi, Gavi, Rodri, Alex Baena, Mike Merino.
Forwards: Mikel Oyarzabal, Dani Olmo, Nico Williams, Yeremy Pino, Ferran Torres, Borja Iglesias, Victor Munoz and Lamine Yamal
Spain are due to play two friendlies before the World Cup starts against Iraq and Peru and will then kick-off their tournament on June 15th against Cape Verde in Atlanta.
La Roja then go on to play Saudi Arabia on June 21st in Atlanta and finish off their group campaign against Uruguay in Guadalajara on June 26th.
Yamal is expected to potentially miss the team’s first two games, as he works his way back from a hamstring injury, and make his first appearance of the competition against Uruguay.
