The Philadelphia Eagles waived undrafted rookie wide receiver Brandon Hayes to make room on the roster for the Zion Wilson signing that was first reported on Thursday, according to an official team announcement.
The Eagles originally signed Hayes on May 27, the day of the team’s first media-attended OTA practice. The Southeastern Louisiana alumnus previously participated in the Eagles’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis in early May.
Hayes’ departure comes shortly before the Eagles are set to hold two
days of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10. The newly added Wilson will presumably take part in those practices before the team has a long layoff before training camp begins in late July.
Hayes, the second-most notable receiver with a last name five letters long to depart the Eagles this week, will be free to sign with any team if he goes unclaimed off waivers. It’s always possible he could return to Philly down the road.
