On Sunday, there were two NFL scores that had never happened in the history of the league and both were accomplished by NFC North squads. After the Chicago Bears dropped 59 points on the Carolina Panthers, the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers finished a 39-22 game, the first in NFL history. The Minnesota/Green Bay final is the 1097th unique score in NFL history.
When we get a new final score in the NFL,it’s called Scorigami. Normally when we get a Scorigami it’s because a team scores an absolute
boatload of points or something weird happens with two-point conversions and gamesmanship. We got the latter here in the Vikings/Packers game.
The Packers missed an extra point in the first quarter, but that didn’t trigger a whole lot of unique scores on its own. Everything stayed pretty normal until the fourth quarter when Minnesota scored to take the lead. They converted a 2-point conversion to go up 25-22. Scoring 25 points in an NFL game is weird. Then Minnesota added two more 7-point touchdowns on top of it. A 39-point day is pretty rare. (A 32-22 score has also never happened.)
During the 2025 season we saw four Scorigamis including one in Week 1:
- Bills beat Ravens 41-40
- Cowboys and Packers tie 40-40
- Texans beat Jaguars 36-29
- Bills beat Buccaneers 44-32
The NFL averages around four of these per season and we already are halfway there in Week 1.
