Real Madrid secured an important 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaídos in a match that required resilience, patience, and character from Alvaro Arbeloa’s side. With several players unavailable and a number of youth team players stepping in to help the squad, the win served as a crucial confidence boost ahead of the team’s upcoming clash with Manchester City.
After the final whistle, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and forward Vinicius Jr spoke to Real Madrid TV about the significance of the victory,
the effort from the squad, and the importance of carrying momentum into Wednesday’s match.
Courtois emphasized the emotional nature of the win and praised the contributions of the young players who stepped up.
“I went crazy with the goal, it hasn’t been an easy week. It’s a good win to build confidence for Wednesday and show that everyone here is fighting hard. I congratulate the youth team players. It’s not easy to come on in a day like today and they showed character.”
The Belgian goalkeeper also reflected on his own form and the work he has been putting in behind the scenes.
“I feel good, I’m happy. It shows the work I do every day.”
Looking ahead to the midweek showdown with Manchester City, Courtois stressed the need for maximum focus and energy from both the players and the supporters.
“We need enormous intensity and concentration. The fans have to be like they were against Benfica. The fans and we have to be at 200%.”
Vinicius Jr echoed similar sentiments after the match, acknowledging the difficulty of the game and the importance of the win given the circumstances.
“It was a very difficult match; we were missing many players. We worked hard, suffered quite a bit, and were able to win to gain confidence for Wednesday. We have to thank the youth team players who came here. There’s no better gift for our fans on a day like today.”
The Brazilian forward also admitted that the demanding schedule has taken its toll physically, but emphasized the need to stay ready regardless.
“I was a little tired today, I’ve played a lot of games these last few days, but you always have to be prepared.”
Like Courtois, Vinicius also looked ahead to the crucial upcoming clash against Manchester City and highlighted the role supporters will play.
“We need our best against City. With everyone’s support, we really need them.”
