Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Bears vs. Eagles Week 13: Two must-know storylines for Black Friday game – NFL.com 2) Eagles offense is still seeking answers. Philadelphia remains a favorite to reach the Super Bowl, but the Eagles feel a bit closer to the 2023 version of themselves than last season’s. That would be the team that found ways to win early but collapsed down the stretch and crashed out of the the wild-card round, rather than a squad that came together to raise the Lombardi
Trophy. The rest of the 2025 season is still unwritten, though. The Eagles just need to figure out what their story will be. Things looked better on Sunday, when the Eagles scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions, but then they failed to add a point the rest of the way. As long as they can avoid too many turnovers against an opportunistic Chicago D, the Eagles should be in a get-right spot against a unit that allows a ton of yards. It’s of vital importance for Jalen Hurts to get back to how he was playing in the two games before the team’s Week 10 bye, when he threw for a combined 505 yards and seven TDs. That would necessitate getting A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith involved and be made easier if Saquon Barkley can get going and keep going on the ground. Barkley’s per-game rushing average is essentially half of what it was during his 2,000-yard 2024 campaign (62.2 versus 125.3) and he’s wearing down later in games; he’s averaging 5.9 yards per carry in the first quarter this season but only 1.9 YPC in the fourth quarter, worst in the NFL. The Eagles can’t afford that trend to continue Friday, especially given the Bears’ knack for late-game heroics.
Eagles-Cowboys Film Review: An offense with no true identity – BGN
Once again, an effective play was wiped out by an illegal formation. This is the stuff that detail-oriented offenses do not do as often as this Eagles team does. Every game, the Eagles lose two or three valuable plays because of the basics. Whether it’s alignment, snap timing, spacing, or personnel usage, the details continue to undermine the offense. They don’t sweat the small stuff, and it shows every single week. I’ve been banging this drum all season long. It comes back to coaching, and it starts at the very top.
NFL Colts outlook, Philadelphia Eagles panic, and Rams are inevitable – SB Nation
Normally when it comes to good teams experiencing a dip, it’s probably a good idea NOT to worry too much as history shows more often than not that they’ll find their way sooner rather than later. However, this was not just a down game where they should burn the tape and move on. The Eagles blew a commanding 21-0 lead to the Cowboys (who aren’t really known for their defense this year) and lost 24-21 after they couldn’t score a single point for the final 41 minutes of regulation. Now THAT is concerning. Remember, this is the same team (for the most part) where Saquon Barkley rushed for 2,000 yards a season ago. This year, Barkley is legitimately averaging less than half the yards per game that he averaged in 2024 (62.2 vs. 125.3). The Eagles need to take a good hard look at what happened in this one before they move on or else they could fall prey to their tendencies again in some very important games down the final stretch of the season.
2025 Game Review – DAL 24, PHI 21 – Iggles Blitz
If you want to know how things went in the PHI/DAL game, there is one simple way to describe it. Punter Braden Mann was the Eagles best player in the game. That’s not ideal when you’re playing a division rival and trying to put a nail in their coffin. This would have been a great week to kick some ass. Instead, the Eagles played sloppy football and lost on a last second field goal. There were times when the Eagles played well. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead and had some good moments. But man were they sloppy. They had a season high 14 penalties. They tied a season high with 2 turnovers. They missed a FG. And the defense allowed three plays of 43 or more yards. That isn’t winning football. In some ways, it was crazy that the game stayed close. The offense looked good early on. They had 196 yards and 21 points in the first half. They didn’t score after that. Drives got past midfield and then something bad would happen. A turnover. A key penalty. A missed FG. The defense gave up 473 yards, but made some critical plays. They held Dallas to 0-2 on fourth downs. They had an end zone INT. They had another takeaway just outside the red zone. This was as bend but don’t break as you can get.
Perspective on Kevin Patullo’s inconsistent offense, Black Friday prediction: 8 Eagles Thoughts – The Athletic
There are two questions I keep coming back to with Patullo: 1) Is the offense improving? 2) Is Patullo giving the offense a schematic advantage? So far, the answers to those questions are not encouraging. It was interesting listening to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio describe Ben Johnson and the Bears: “It’s a great scheme. They do a great job calling the game, mixing it up, marrying their run game and their pass game. They’re highly ranked in a lot of areas, and I don’t think it’s any accident. They’ve got really good players, and it’s a great scheme and a great play caller.” It would be hard to offer those platitudes with sincerity about the Eagles’ scheme this season.
In Roob’s Eagles Observations: Making the case for Tank Bigsby – NBCSP
Let’s start out by saying I don’t think Tank Bigsby is the answer to all the Eagles’ issues. That would be foolish. I don’t want to bench Saquon Barkley. I don’t want to trade Saquon Barkley. I don’t want to cut Saquon Barkley. But I do think Bigsby can help inject some life into a hapless running game, and I don’t understand why he hasn‘t been been given a bigger role. Now, there’s not a huge sample size with Bigsby. He’s got just 18 carries since coming over from the Jaguars in September – all 18 in the last five weeks – and that’s about 10 percent of Saquon Barkley’s 185 carries. But let’s do a little comparison and see what Bigsby has done with minimal playing time: 100-Yard Games: Barkley 1, Bigsby 1 … Runs of 17 yards or more: Barkley 5, Bigsby 4 … Negative runs: Barkley 29, Bigsby 1 … Rushing average: Barkley 3.7, Bigsby 9.1. And get this: In these last five games, Barkley has 90 carries and Bigsby has 18. But Bigsby has more rushes of at least 10 yards during that span than Barkley. Barkley has five 10-yard runs during that span, or one every 18 attempts. Bigsby has seven, or one every 2 ½ attempts. That’s nuts. Nick Sirianni and Kevin Patullo owe it to the team to put the most effective guys out there, and right now for whatever reason Bigsby has some juice that Barkley just doesn’t have. I don’t know why. I don’t know if Saquon isn’t totally healthy or if the pounding he took with 482 touches last year had more of an effect on him than he’s letting on. I know we’ve largely blamed play calling and the offensive line on Barkley’s struggles, and they’re definitely part of the issue. But Bigsby is out there behind the same o-line and running the same plays and when he has the ball the holes are there and he’s picking up big yards. Sirianni was asked Monday why, with the offense ineffective after those first three drives Sunday and Barkley running through quicksand again, Bigsby didn’t get more carries. Bigsby had one carry and gained eight yards – the longest run by an Eagles running back in the game. On one carry. Nick’s answer made no sense: “Obviously, we always want to get Saquon the ball as much as we possibly can because we know what type of playmaker he is.” Last year, yeah. This year, not so much. Barkley has averaged 3.3 yards per carry or worse in seven games this year, including the last three. It’s not like Bigsby is some undrafted practice squad journeyman. He’s a proven back. He rushed for nearly 800 yards with a 4.6 average and seven touchdowns last year for an awful Jaguars team. That pivotal 3rd-and-2 Sunday in Dallas? Tie game, two minutes left, Eagles on their own 37? If you have any confidence at all in Barkley he gets the ball there. Instead, Patullo called a pass play, Jalen Hurts took an 11-yard sack, the Eagles had to punt and the Cowboys needed five plays to get into range for a game-winning field goal. I can’t sit here and guarantee that Bigsby converts a 3rd-and-2 if he gets the ball, but I like his chances. Basically, the Eagles had to run the offense differently in that critical situation because of Barkley’s ineffectiveness. You can’t operate a football team like that. You have to play whoever gives you the best chance to win. Regardless of reputation or contract or whatever happened last year. If something isn’t working, why not try something else? What do you have to lose?
NFL Week 13 Preview: Schedule, storylines, matchups to watch and betting spreads – PFF
Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles (-7). Storyline of the game: Can the Eagles’ defense slow down an ascending Bears offense? The Bears’ offense is hot. Since Week 9, the start of their four-game win streak, the Bears are fourth in EPA per play and fifth in success rate, and Caleb Williams is third among quarterbacks with a 76.7 overall PFF grade. The Bears are now 8-3 and lead the NFC North, and come face-to-face with an Eagles defense that has been an elite unit at times this season. Vic Fangio’s unit is seventh in EPA per play allowed and will look to bring to a halt the Bears’ momentum.
Spadaro: 6 storylines to follow in Bears vs. Eagles – PE.com
The Eagles offense: Searching for that complete performance. Philadelphia scored 21 points in the first half at Dallas and then did not score in the second half in the 24-21 defeat. There were too many penalties, a fumble by the offense and on a punt return, a missed field goal attempt, and clearly other chances to put points on the board. That has been, in many shapes and forms, a consistent theme throughout the season. “That’s disappointing and that’s frustrating, but it’s going to give us an opportunity on a short week to get out there and get after the Bears,” Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo said. “So, there’s a lot to be encouraged by. But at the same time, when those things happen, when you go into the locker room after the game, the frustration levels are high, right? We know how close we were and if those things don’t go the way they go, it’s a whole other outcome.” The running game, in particular, has not found traction all season, and the Eagles are continuing to explore ways to get Saquon Barkley in gear. It won’t be easy against this Bears defense …
ESPN’s models still don’t believe in the Chicago Bears – Windy City Gridiron
But the bottom line is that Chicago’s early strength of schedule seems to be working against them when it comes to predictions, which is why this upcoming game in Philadelphia is such a big deal. If the Bears beat the Eagles, their probability of making the playoffs jumps from about 62% to 82%. Knocking off the defending champions would definitely force a system (and narrative) recalibration about this team, proving they can beat anyone on the schedule from here on out. If the Bears lose, their playoff probability would drop to about 55%, which would put tremendous pressure on them going to Lambeau Field on December 7. Simply put: there’s no time like the present for the Bears to prove to everyone that they’re for real. No one will doubt any longer it if Chicago leaves Philly with a win on Friday.
Cowboys fans have hope revived after recent games – Blogging The Boys
Now the Cowboys are riding a two-game win streak and have their eyes focused toward a playoff run. Whether they get there or not is unknown, but just the fact that they are at least ‘in the hunt’ is a stark difference from the team that lost to the Arizona Cardinals before the bye. We asked how Cowboys fans felt about the team’s direction now, and 75% of respondents are confident the team is headed in the right direction. Whether it is for the rest of 2025, or a sneak peek at what may be in 2026, fans are feeling much better now. [BLG Note: The Eagles had the opportunity to stick a fork in the Cowboys’ season. Instead, this.]
Commanders vs Broncos Wednesday Injury Report: Several players on track to return – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders are back from their bye week, and should also be getting some players back from injury. They held their first full practice today, and now have a better idea of who will be available for Sunday night’s home game against the Denver Broncos. QB Jayden Daniels returned to practice without a brace on his dislocated left elbow and a non-contact jersey. Head coach Dan Quinn said it’s unlikely Daniels will play vs the Broncos, but they are preparing him for when he is medically cleared. He was limited for his first practice back with the team.
Giants head coaching search: Rams DC Chris Shula a betting favorite – Big Blue View
Chris Shula, a rising star in the NFL coaching ranks as defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams, has emerged as the betting favorite to become the next head coach of the New York Giants. Per the prediction market Polymarket, Shula currently has a 43% chance of becoming the Giants head coach in 2026.
