Zachariah Branch continues to be the standout player at training camp. The Falcoholic’s own Kevin Knight recently highlighted the impression he is making on the team. From creating separation to making difficult contested catches, the rookie wide receiver is doing it all to prove he is ready to play significant snaps at the start of the season. After there was internal belief that the coaching staff needed to take it slow with him, Branch is looking ready to see the field in 11 and possibly even
some 12-personnel sets.
His emergence this summer has led to raised expectations. It’s reasonable to believe he can produce a certain amount of yards in his rookie season. While there is uncertainty at quarterback, Branch will have big play opportunities given the star power around him. His ability to win one-on-one matchups while Kevin Stefanski schemes up plays to get him the ball in space will be crucial to turn his eye-opening summer into a productive fall and winter. Many fans believe he can do that by gaining over 500 receiving yards.
With his sheer explosiveness and elusiveness, Branch may not need as many receptions as most wide receivers would need to gain over 500 yards. How he creates extra yards after the catch could accumulate into more production, particularly on third downs. Although there will be games where he isn’t much of a factor, the former Bulldog looks capable of making a sizable impact on a team that will likely be forced to score more following Jalon Walker’s devastating season-ending injury.
