Former Virginia golfer Lauren Coughlin birdied each of her first nine holes on Saturday to shoot a 9-under 26, the lowest nine-hole score in LPGA history. It’s also the second time ever that an LPGA player has birdied every hole on a single nine.
Coughlin’s birdie run came to an end with a par on her tenth hole of the day. She added to her birdie tally on her 12th hole before parring her way in to shoot a bogey-free 10-under 61.
Despite the record performance, Coughlin currently sits in a tie for 21st after her first two rounds at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. She’s only three shots out of second place but eight shots back of the leader Yuna Nishimura.
Coughlin played five seasons at UVA from 2011 to 2016 and capped off her career with her first collegiate win at the 2016 ACC Championship.
Coughlin, who turns 34 years old on Sunday, joined the LPGA Tour in 2018 and has won three times on tour, including the Aramco Championship earlier this year. She is currently the No. 17-ranked woman in the world and the second highest ranked American, only behind world No. 1 Nelly Korda.
