Following in the footsteps of Crimson Tide linebacker Deontae Lawson, Alabama defensive end LT Overton addressed FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos — both his play style and comments this summer when he said he couldn’t see Alabama stopping him. From Bama247:
One question to Overton: how has the team handled crowd noise in practice, trying to simulate the environment in Doak Campbell Stadium?
Overton’s answer: “We just listen to our leaders. Disrespect will be addressed
accordingly.”
Another question to Overton: what stands out about Castellanos, a transfer from Boston College, on film?
“Of course it’s the legs,” Overton said. “But nothing we ain’t seen before.”
Overton, who transferred after the 2023 season from Texas A&M to Alabama, noted Alabama practiced against a quarterback in Jalen Milroe last season who could run.
“It’s nothing different,” Overton said. “It’s being able to compete him contained, keeping our rush lanes in check, and making sure he just keeps the ball — we want to make sure [Castellanos] doesn’t want the ball in his hands anymore.”
Castellanos ran for 1,113 yards at Boston College in 2023 before his effectiveness as a runner was limited last season by new Eagles coach Bill O’Brien before Castellanos left the team. He reunited this offseason in Tallahassee with Seminoles offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who coached Castellanos at UCF in 2022.
Much of Florida State’s offense around Castellanos is also new. The Seminoles’ starting offensive line features four incoming transfers, and Overton was asked Tuesday about watching film of those players at other schools to prepare.
“Me and TK [Tim Keenan] and a few of the guys on the D-line, even around the defense, we’ve known these guys — the transfers that’s came in,” Overton said. “It’s not anything we haven’t seen before when it comes to dirtiness or however their stamp on it is, how they play is. We’re prepared for anything.”
Florida State running back Ousmane Kromah has been named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Watch List:
Kromah, from Leesburg, Georgia, was a top-100 recruit out of Lee County High School and a member of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super 11 in 2024. A two-time Region 1-6A Player of the Year, Kromah ran for 4,643 yards and 55 touchdowns in three seasons at Lee County and added 19 receiving touchdowns on 83 catches.
Kromah ran for 1,504 yards and accounted for 20 touchdowns as a sophomore before running 182 times for 1,783 yards with 29 total touchdowns as a junior with Lee County.
As a senior, Kromah ran for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns as Lee County finished 13-1 and reached the 5A state semifinals before enrolling at Florida State this summer.
A two-sport athlete, Kromah averaged a double-double for the Trojan basketball team in 2023.
Kromah will make his Florida State debut Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Alabama. The contest will air nationally on ABC.
