The Philadelphia Eagles are tweaking their practice squad one day ahead of their NFL Kickoff Game against the Dallas Cowboys. Here’s an overview:
- CB Eli Ricks was re-signed.
- OL Hollin Pierce was released.
The Eagles signed Ricks to their initial practice squad on August 27 before cutting him two days later. Now he’s back to apparently provide even more cornerback depth … even though the Birds already have three other CBs on the PS (Parry Nickerson, Ambry Thomas, Brandon Johnson). While Ricks was gone, the Eagles gave out his No. 23 jersey number to Jakorian
Bennett (who briefly changed from No. 49 to No. 41). Big upgrade for Bennett. To be determined which number Ricks will wear moving forward.
Pierce originally signed with the Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Rutgers. The Trenton, New Jersey native is a large man at 6’8”, 341 pounds. But perhaps the Eagles aren’t feeling so great about his developmental potential. It’s possible he does return in the future. Howie Roseman likes to shuffle the bottom of the practice squad to essentially work around the 17-player limit.
