AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns junior running back Quintrevion Wisner may remain consigned to adjusting his teammate’s chains around his neck for another week.
After sitting out in Saturday’s home win over San Jose State with a leg injury, Wisner is “doubtful” for next weekend’s matchup against UTEP, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said on Monday.
“I’m not ruling him out, but I would say it’s doubtful,” Sarkisian said. “again, at this juncture of the season I’m just not in a rush to push guys back
out there if they’re not close to 100 percent. I just know how long this thing goes and I know what it looks like in October and November and December and hopefully January. Is the juice worth the squeeze?”
Wisner recorded 16 carries for 80 yards in the season opener against Ohio State, splitting time with redshirt junior CJ Baxter in his return from injury. In Wisner’s absence, Baxter had 13 carries for 64 yards, sophomore Jerrick Gibson added seven carries for 38 yards, and redshirt freshman Christian Clark gained 21 yards on seven carries.
The only 1,000-yard rusher to return to the SEC this season, Wisner was a preseason first-team All-SEC selection.
