Former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has gone from teammate to opponent in the span of 24 hours.
After being released as a vested veteran on Tuesday, Valdes-Scantling has agreed to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, who will face the Seahawks at Lumen Field in Week 1.
Tuesday night it was reported that Valdes-Scantling would sign with either the 49ers or the Pittsburgh
Steelers, Seattle’s Week 2 opponent. Either way, the MVS revenge game was imminent.
MVS signed with the Seahawks in March prior to the team adding Cooper Kupp in free agency. The emergence of fifth-round rookie Tory Horton bumped MVS down the depth chart, and his lack of special teams snaps was an indicator that his roster spot was far from secure despite that $3 million in guaranteed money. also caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl against the 49ers when he was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. This is important to note because the 49ers lost that Super Bowl, something they’ve done three times this century.
The 49ers have several receivers either injured or suspended right now, such that they’ve recently traded for Skyy Moore, are exploring reuniting with Kendrick Bourne, and have now brought in Valdes-Scantling.
We’ll see how heavily involved MVS is in the 49ers offense come Sept. 7.
