Niclas Füllkrug is making quite the statement this season, and his latest heroics might have put him firmly on Jürgen Klopp’s radar!
Entering the weekend, the Werder Bremen striker had scored in three consecutive Bundesliga matches, finding the net against RB Leipzig, FC Köln, and FC Augsburg. He has continued that hot streak in spectacular fashion, too, with a stoppage-time equalizer against former club Borussia Dortmund on Friday to complete a stunning comeback from 2-0 down and deny the league
leaders a fifth straight victory. Füllkrug now has four Bundesliga goals to his name this season.
That is the sort of finishing Germany could use! At 33, Füllkrug is hardly a long-term project, but his experience, physicality, aerial threat, and knack for delivering in big moments give him a different dimension to Germany’s attack.
With Klopp still figuring out his best options after experimenting with two separate squads during his first international break, could a striker in this kind of form earn himself another opportunity with Die Mannschaft?
Should Klopp reward Füllkrug’s red-hot start with a call-up, or should Germany prioritize younger attacking options? Is the veteran striker playing his way back into the national-team picture?
