Jamal Musiala is undoubtedly one of the best players of his generation. Musiala has done special things for both Bayern Munich and the German national team over the years, but after a serious injury suffered at the Club World Cup last summer, he simply has not been the same since returning to the lineup.
Despite this, Nagelsmann has entrusted Musiala as the 10 in Germany’s attack, but things have not gone swimmingly thus far for Musiala in this role. A role in which would likely be Serge Gnabry’s,
were he healthy and at the World Cup this summer.
“For Jamal, it’s all about rhythm. He was out for a year, we simply have to give him rhythm. We all know what kind of qualities he has. We all have to get them out of him again, including myself. He has to believe in himself and not overthink – just play his game,” Nagelsmann stated, as captured via @iMiaSanMia.
BFW Analysis
It is a good thing to see the coach gives such belief in his players, and is certainly a confidence boost much needed for the Bayern Munich star. However, criticism is required, and especially at the World Cup, it is not the time for develop. If players are not performing, they should not be starting, and questions are starting to be pointed at Musiala’s performances.
It has been about a half year since Musiala has returned from his serious injury, and there are no real signs that he is back to his normal level. There is no clear solution to replace Musiala, but there needs to be an answer to these performances or else Nagelsmann might have to look to reduce Musiala’s role in the coming matches.
