I was genuinely sitting on pins afternoon waiting to see what the Houston Astros would do in Sacramento. A quick lead for Houston led me to turn off the TV pretty quickly hoping that the Red Sox would continue
their winning ways from the first two games of and make this weekend a lot easier on themselves.
Boy, was I wrong.
This felt like an absolute stinker of a game when all the pressures on the line. Offense? Nonexistent. Pitching? Shaky for the most part. The only thing I can really say is all of our good relievers are gonna be healthy for this final series against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway.
after hearing all the griping of the Blue Jays over the last couple of days, namely, during their series against the Yankees, they should at least be feeling a little better that maybe the division is still within their grasp. Is that one of the other bright spots too? I don’t know who I’d rather play or where I’d rather go for the wildcard just yet. That is if they can clinch that playoff spot with one win over the course of the last three games. A performance like tonight’s for the whole weekend certainly won’t cut it.
Studs
Anyone?
For this being a clinching game, this was an absolute dud.
Duds
The Offense
Being perfected though six frames by…Louis Varland, Eric Lauer and Yariel Rodriguez? Are we ok? This is the team that played against the A’s at home, not the team that played the first two games of the series.
The Pitching
This felt like much more the norm of a Brayan Bello outing. Gets into a serious jam, find a way to escape it, but drives his pitch count up exponentially high and forces the bullpen into the game at least an inning earlier than it should. Justin Wilson…big woof with the grand slam. Zack Kelly, not any better. A 6-run frame was quite a dagger.
Play of the Game
Breaking up the perfect game was the only really good thing that happened.
