The most popular sport in Bayern Munich is not football, it is golf.
Former and current players alike, including the likes of Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, Konrad Laimer, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and so on — they all have one thing in common and that is not that they played football for Bayern, but the fact that they all play golf.
As it turns out, midfielder Leon Goretzka is also a golf player and he referenced that in the game against Werder Bremen.
Goretzka scored in the 70th
minute assisted by Alphonso Davies and flapped his arms like he were a bird in celebration. When asked about it after the game, he said it was something he’d discussed with his fellow golfer Josip Stanisic. “I’ve spoken about it with Stani before the game. We play a lot of golf together. It’s the so-called ‘Birdie dance’,” he said, per @iMiaSanMia.
Never did I think there would come a day when someone did the Birdie Dance as a celebration but football’s a weird sport.
