After failing to get off on the right foot, the Indianapolis Colts find themselves in territory that is more familiar than it should be. With over a decade of losing Week 1 contests, they know what it’s like to be behind the eight ball. 2026 is no different as the Colts find themselves in an 0-2 hole. It’s only Week 3, but is it already a must-win scenario?
Technically, the answer is no. Teams that start 0-3 have about a 2.5% chance at a postseason berth. So, yes, I’m saying they’d still have a chance.
I wouldn’t place large sums of money on that chance, however. The Colts have a good opportunity to dig their way out. They get the reeling Texans at home. As another 0-2 team, the Colts won’t find themselves facing the cream of the crop and have a chance to decimate the Texans’ chance at the postseason in the process.
Looking forward, Jayden Daniels’ status for the game in London is up in the air. That could make that game much more manageable. With a road contest against Pittsburgh, the Colts could leave the murderer’s row that is the first five weeks at 2-3. Not perfect, but they will take it. That only happens if they win on Sunday. If this season is destined to be anything more than a dumpster fire, they have to find a way.
This may be the best and last shot to truly get things on track. One benefit working in the Colts’ favor is that the rest of the division might be just as bad. They have to capitalize on the Texans’ misfortune and bury them now with the understanding they can turn it on quickly. Sunday could be a two for one. Then again, it could be the beginning of the end.
