It’s Sunday, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! This week, we will finally get some baseball news, as the Winter Meetings are set to begin in Orlando. Will there
be heartbreak, as happened last year when a certain free agent right fielder opted not to take Hal’s money? Or will there be jubilation, as when the Yankees inked Gerrit Cole and Max Fried to record-setting deals to turn the team’s starting rotation into a strength? We’ll find out soon enough — but in the meanwhile, let’s see what they’ve been up to this past week.
’Twas the Night Before Christmas…
This past week, the Yankees and the Steinbrenners hosted their 36th Annual Children’s Holiday Concert Series. Aaron Judge, his wife Samantha, Aaron Boone, and Santa Clause were in attendance. Judge read “A Visit from St. Nicholas” to the children (otherwise known as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas”) Santa gave out gift bags to more than 5,000 children, and all had a wonderful time getting into the spirit of the holidays.
Holiday Food Drive
Speaking of the holidays, the Yankees are hosting their annual Holiday Food Drive this week. Here’s what the Facebook post has to say:
Our Holiday Food Drive is coming up on Tuesday, December 9th!
Stop by Yankee Stadium’s Gate 2 from 10 am – 2 pm to drop off non-perishable foods. Donate 40 lbs. of food to receive 2 tickets to see the Yankees in 2026
This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and help those in need — and if doing good deeds around the holidays is not a good enough motivation for you, you can also get two free tickets to see the Yankees in 2026!
Go Cats!
Alright, I’m going to be honest, I’m a little disappointed in myself. As a proud Nova alum, I watched this past week’s Big 5 matchup between Villanova and Temple, and I didn’t realize that the radio voice of the Yankees was broadcasting the game until I saw Dave Sims’ post on Instagram later that day.
Villanova won, in case you’re interested.
Around the World
Aaron Judge had a busy week. After spending time celebrating the holidays with the Steinbrenners, he was one of four North American athletes helping with the FIFA World Cup draw, alongside Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, and Shaq. That’s some pretty good company. (Apologies that Brady has to lead this Instagram preview.)
A-Rod joins a Trend
There’s been this trend going around on social media where you play a clip of some kind, with a caption along the lines of “In your [decade], there will be [event]. It is very, very important that you just [what you did, or should have done].” It’s an opportunity to highlight happenstances that changed your life, mistakes that you made, or something else. I don’t know, it’s a trend popular with the kids, that’s what matters. So, naturally, Alex Rodriguez participated, remembering a moment where he and Derek Jeter collided into each other and dropped a routine fly ball. And the best part is — Jeter liked the Instagram reel.
Checking in on Friends, New and Old
And now, for a brief rundown on what else happened this week — because a lot did. First, we had Cam Schlittler join Yankees Hot Stove on the YES Network, where the well-known cat dad betrayed Arya and played with a dog.
Anthony Rizzo took in the city with his fam — i.e., his girl and his dog.
Giancarlo Stanton hung with some young baseball players in Colombia.
We got some cute photos from the family of old friend Nestor Cortes.
And some photo dumps from the Sabathia family.
