The Pittsburgh Steelers defense believes it has made significant progress since its last meeting with the Cleveland Browns, particularly when it comes to communication, simplicity and trust.
Ahead of Sunday’s rematch, safety Jaquan Brisker explained how the unit has grown more comfortable playing together following its previous loss to Cleveland.
“I feel like now we trust each other a lot more,” Brisker said via Destiny Sanchez. “Calls have become more simple.”
Brisker also pointed to defensive coordinator
Patrick Graham’s adjustments, including his decision to get down to the sideline, as another factor in the defense’s improved communication.
“Obviously our coach (Patrick Graham) has got down to the sideline and things like that,” Brisker said. “Guys are just playing their roles and trusting their roles.”
That increased confidence could be important against a young Browns offense that will look to challenge Pittsburgh’s defense once again.
For the Steelers, the objective is straightforward: communicate effectively, execute assignments and avoid the mistakes that contributed to their previous defeat. Brisker believes the defense is in a better position to do exactly that.
