Patrick Mahomes shows rehab progress, throws in new video | ESPN
Based on Wednesday’s video clip, the Chiefs are optimistic that Mahomes is on track to participate — even in a limited capacity — in the team’s voluntary offseason practices, which are expected to start in May. Mahomes has spent much of his rehab working with Julie Frymyer, one of the Chiefs’ top athletic trainers.
“He’s around here all the time,” coach Andy Reid said last month of Mahomes. “He spends a ton of time here, seven hours a day.
He’s in there cranking away and making progress every day. It’s great to see. Julie grinds on him and makes sure he stays on task and challenges him. He keeps showing up. That’s about half the battle on these things when you have these injuries.
“It’s not going to be a pleasant thing. Every day, you’ve got to fight through it and you’ve got to attack the challenge of the workout and rehab. He’s doing a great job with that.”
2026 NFL Draft: Five biggest roster needs for all 32 teams | NFL.com
Pick 9
Kansas City Chiefs 6-11Strength of schedule: .514
Biggest needs: CB, WR, Edge, DL, LBWe witnessed a mass exodus from the Chiefs secondary this offseason, with three starters among those departing. While head coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach began the process of replacing them in free agency, more reinforcements are needed via the draft. A great way to help a rebuilding defensive backfield would be to bring in more explosiveness on the defensive line. And with Patrick Mahomes working his way back from an ACL tear, it would behoove the Chiefs to do everything they can to make his life easier. Adding at least one more player who can make tough catches in traffic must be on the to-do list.
3 Safeties the Chiefs Should Target in the NFL Draft | Sports Illustrated
Bud Clark, TCU Horned Frogs
I’m in favor of the Chiefs adding a true ball hawk to the back end of their defense, and I’m sure Spagnuolo would appreciate that as well.
One of the best true center-fielders in this draft class is Clark, who provides ample play recognition when it comes to patterns and concepts in front of him, paired with great close speed and range to attack the football. Clark would be a great pairing in the defensive backfield with the skill sets of Hicks and Gilman.

Kansas City Chiefs
From ZmoneyKSU (@GuitarCatsChief): Does Justin Fields start any games for the Chiefs? Do they find a role for him once Mahomes is back or is he strictly a clipboard holder?
Zmoney, I view the Chiefs/Justin Fields marriage as a great business arrangement. He gives Kansas City depth and an experienced stand-in with real upside for Andy Reid to mine. The Chiefs give him a year of development and the shot to take starter reps in a championship program through the spring and summer, while Patrick Mahomes rehabs his knee injury.
I’d bet on Mahomes getting back for Week 1, so that’d make the likelihood that Fields is spending the 2026 season entirely as a backup, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Seahawks to open Wednesday of Week 1 with Australia game Thursday | ESPN
The NFL announced the Super Bowl LX champion Seattle Seahawks will open the season on the Wednesday of Week 1 instead of hosting the usual Thursday night opener.
The change is being made because the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers will open their season in Melbourne, Australia in a game that will be broadcast on Thursday night in the United States.
The Seahawks will play on NBC at 8:20 p.m. ET. The league has not announced their Week 1 opponent.
The Rams and 49ers will play on Friday morning at 10:35 a.m. local time in Australia, which is 8:35 p.m. ET. The league has not announced a broadcast partner for the game.
The last time the NFL opened a season on a Wednesday night was in 2012 when a game between the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys was moved to that day to avoid conflict with then-President Barack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night.
Super Bowl expected to return to Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium in 2029: Source | The Athletic
The venue for Super Bowl 63 in 2029 will be voted on at the NFL league meetings in Arizona next week, and the game is expected to be awarded to Las Vegas, according to a league source.
Allegiant Stadium hosted Super Bowl 58 in 2024, a 25-22 Kansas City Chiefs victory in overtime over the San Francisco 49ers. Usher headlined the halftime show for that game. Allegiant Stadium’s website lists the venue’s max capacity for a football game as 65,000, but the official attendance for that Super Bowl was 61,629, the lowest attendance for a non-pandemic Super Bowl.
If Vegas is awarded the Super Bowl in 2029, it would mark the second time the city hosts the league’s marquee event in a five-year period — and the second Super Bowl in the first decade of the stadium’s existence. The Raiders moved from Oakland, Calif., to Las Vegas in 2020, with the stadium opening its doors that summer.
Puka Nacua’s attorney denies allegations he bit a woman, made an antisemitic remark | CBS Sports
A woman in California has filed for a temporary restraining order against Puka Nacua over allegations that he bit her, though a judge declined to grant the order pending further review. The woman also claims the Rams receiver made an antisemitic remark while the two were hanging out on Dec. 31, 2025.
Nacua’s attorney, Levi McCathern, vehemently denied the allegations in a statement to TMZ.
“Puka denies these allegations in the strongest possible terms,” McCathern said. “We will be filing a defamation lawsuit and pursuing all available legal remedies in response to these false and damaging statements.”
According to the complaint, which was obtained by TMZ, the woman was hanging out with Nacua and a group of friends on New Year’s Eve. The group was at dinner early in the night when Nacua allegedly said, “F— the Jews.”

Draft Talk: Should the Chiefs consider this trade-up-from-9 scenario?
The co-hosts agreed that Bailey’s floor to be drafted may be the Washington Commanders, with head coach Dan Quinn’s defensive style at pick No. 7, but even Miami defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. could be gone before Kansas City’s selection in their eyes.
“Schematically, Bain is the fit,” Rogers clarified. “I’d still make that move because I would still be worried about him going in front of you. I would take him to [the New Orleans Saints] at 8.”
“So the Rich Hill chart separates nine and six by about 60-ish points,” Rogers notes. “Which is almost exactly pick 74.”
The proposed deal involves the Chiefs trading pick No. 74 to the Browns along with pick No. 9 to select Bain or Bailey at pick No. 6. That would mean Kansas City would still have three selections in the top-40 — then none until the fourth-round, 109th-overall selection this year.
