The Miami Dolphins on Tuesday announced the signing of cornerback Cameron Dantzler, Sr. The move comes in conjunction with the team’s addition of outside linebacker Matthew Judon reported earlier in the day. To make roster space for Dantzler and Judon, the team waived wide receiver Tarik Black and punter Ryan Stonehouse.
Incumbent punter Jake Bailey appears to have secured his roster spot with the waiving of Stonehouse.
Dantzler joined the NFL in 2020 as a third-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings
out of Mississippi State. He spent three years with the Vikings before training camp, practice squad, and injured reserve stints with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and New Orleans Saints in 2023. In 2024, he joined the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League, then joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League for a month. He played for the Memphis Showboats in the UFL’s 2025 spring season.
He has appeared in 37 games, starting 26 of them, during his career. He has 149 tackles, 17 passes defensed, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
He joins a Dolphins cornerbacks room in need of a veteran starter. Will Dantzler be that player, despite having been out of the NFL for the past year? He will compete with Storm Duck, Kendall Sheffield, Mike Hilton, Ethan Bonner, Jason Marshall, Jr., Jack Jones, Cam Smith, Isaiah Johnson, Ethan Robinson, and B.J. Adams for a roster spot. Bonner was injured during the team’s win over the Detroit Lions last week and could see limited availability as he looks to recover.
Miami hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday in the final preseason game for both teams. The final roster cuts, taking teams from the 90-man preseason roster to the 53-man regular season limit, by Tuesday, August 26, at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
