The recognition was starting to come for Emmett Johnson as he became the first to 1000 total yards, then to 1000 yards rushing. And then he just blew the brakes off the UCLA Bruins.
Yes, it was a Bruins defense which had just been lit up by the #2 Indiana Hoosiers for 56 points, and, yes, those Bruins are unranked. But if it’s that so easy, then explain why he is the only FBS/D1 player to accomplish the feat this season as well as the first Husker ever to do so. Are we the only team who doesn’t play a ranked squad
in all 12 regular season games?
So, yes, it very much means something and one of the things I was curious about is does it mean something with fans who had savaged the offensive line and called for the head of their coach, Donovan Raiola, to be skewered on a pike? (Calmer folk just wanted him fired.) Or, as Emmett’s numbers continue to amass and quarterback sacks continue to decrease, all in the face of mounting injuries, have those views softened?
And, in addition, do they believe Emmett Johnson will become not only the the first Nebraska All-American running back since Ameer Abdullah, but the first 1st-Team All-American at the position since Mike Rozier? (Yes, it’s been that long.)
Here’s what you said:
- Leading the parade with 40% of the vote are those of you who acknowledge the boys on the line have improved – and done it while losing three of their four starting tackles who began the year as co-#1’s for the rest of the season..
- I threw this one in after counting up the 21 offensive linemen on the roster and wondering would a co-coach at the position help in a new era without staff restrictions? We have two LB coaches don’t we? 37% of you are open to it. Interior and Tackle Coaches maybe?
- 23% still want Donovan gone – I’m guessing the Minnesota game left some scars burned into memory.
- 64% of you think this is going down. And I am the only one who can’t believe it’s been this long since we had a 1st-teamer?? (I looked it up on the athletic department site. And if it does happen, we’re not firing the line coach, right?)
