Cameron Smotherman weighed in for his bantamweight fight against Ricky Turcios at the UFC 324 weigh ins on Friday morning, then stepped off the scale and faceplanted on the stage. Smotherman stayed down for several minutes as medics rushed to assist.
Smotherman was eventually carried off stage and rushed to the hospital.
Now’s not really the time for a soapbox speech about cutting weight but … yeah, this was bad.
Hopefully we’ll be able to share a positive update as soon as possible.
The 28 year-old Smotherman (12-6) is coming off back-to-back losses to Serhiy Sidey and Ricky Simon and stands at 1-2 in the promotion. UFC fans may remember the bantamweight “Baby-Faced Killer” for his brief stint on Dana White’s “Contender Series” back in summer 2023, where Smotherman came up short against Charalampos Grigoriou.
