Jim Petersen, color analyst for the Minnesota Timberwolves, joined Two Words: Wolves Pod to talk about his time coaching with the Minnesota Lynx, his playing career, his experience in the Canis Hoopus comment section, and the upcoming Wolves season
— Jim goes over his eight years coaching with Cheryl Reeve and the Lynx and why he feels Reeve is such a special coach.
— Next, Jim goes over a phenomenal story about going to Paisley Park following the Lynx’s 2015 championship for a private concert from
Prince himself.
— From 1982 to 1988 the Los Angeles Lakers made the NBA Finals seven out of eight seasons. The one time they did not was in 1986 when Hakeem Olajuwon, Ralph Sampson, and the Houston Rockets beat them in five games with Jim Pete coming off the bench.
— In Game 5, after Olajuwon gets ejected, the Rockets turned to Petersen for the final five minutes of the game. With just over two minutes left, Jim Pete wins a jump ball against Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, leading to the game-tying free throws from Sampson, who later won the game on an incredible buzzer-beater.
— Jim discusses his history with Timberwolves fan comment sections, including an experience with someone from KFAN’s “Rube Chat” who ended up egging his house.
— He also went over how special the Canis Hoopus community is both for himself and the Timberwolves fan community, including special shoutouts to Tim Allen, Stop-n-Pop, EricInMadison, John Meyer, MAYNHOLUP, and many others.
— With the Timberwolves’ season on the horizon, Jim Pete said he is most looking forward to seeing what Chris Finch has in store for the young guys this season, including Rob Dillingham, Terrence Shannon Jr, Jaylen Clark, and maybe even Joan Beringer.
— Finally, in a lightning round style, answers a series of questions, including his favorite NBA area, Breen’s “BANG” or Grady’s “CASH,” his favorite Timberwolves jersey, and his prediction for the Lynx’s current playoff run and the Timberwolves’ upcoming season.
