The Liverpool FC Women continued their busy January as Gareth Taylor and the club have looked to strengthen the side and get out of the WSL basement. On Monday the club announced their sixth signing of the winter
window as Aurélie Csillag completed her transfer from SC Freiburg pending international approval.
Csillag is an exciting young attacking prospect who can play on either wing. The soon-to-be 23 year old has scored four goals for SC Freiburg since joining last summer, and scored 14 goals across three seasons at FC Basel. Csillag also scored her first senior international goal for Switzerland this fall.
She has frequently been used as an impact player off the bench for club and country, and should provide Gareth Taylor another dynamic player to his attacking options. Csillag described her strengths as using her speed and dribbling skills to take people on 1v1 during her introductory interview
“I come as a striker, as a winger, so I can score goals, I can go in one-v-one and I can race my opponents. These are my strengths.”
For Csillag, the move to England to compete in the WSL is a dream come true. She was quick to jump at the opportunity to join Liverpool when the offer came in.
“For me, the Super League was always a dream. When I was a little child, I always wanted to play in the Super League. And then when I heard from Liverpool, it was a nice city, a nice club, a lot of tradition and history, I didn’t have any doubts to join this winter.”
Like many of the other new recruits, Csillag was highly impressed with the training facilities at Melwood.
“The training centre is amazing. I’ve never seen a training centre in a women’s club like this. I was very, very surprised and very happy that I could see this and join this.”
