San Diego Wave FC announced that they have “mutually agreed to part ways” with Colombian international center back Daniela Arias.
“We want to thank (Arias) for her time with the Wave,” said Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton in a statement. “Dani has been an incredible member of this team and contributed greatly to our environment in San Diego. We wish her the best in this mutual decision to allow her to pursue other opportunities.”
Arias signed with the Wave ahead of the 2025 NWSL
season, but has barely appeared for the Wave as the center back positions were held by Kennedy Wesley and Kristen McNabb. Trinity Armstrong also had some time in the center back spot ahead Arias on the depth chart.
Armstrong injured her knee in the Wave’s final match of the NWSL playoffs in 2025, making Arias the de facto backup off the bench. Still, the Colombian captain had not appeared in 2026 and played in two matches off the bench for eight total minutes in 2025.
Wesley and McNabb will likely keep the starting spots, and Armstrong may return from her injury soon.
The Wave hold the top spot on the table through 13 matches and play their first match back from the midseason break on July 4, against Gotham FC.
