In this edition of SB Nation Reacts, we’re talking about two Michigan programs that are surging — the men’s basketball team and the hockey team. Both teams could wind up being a No. 1-seed in postseason tournaments.
Michigan Basketball: Currently ranked No. 3 in the nation with
a 26-2 record (16-1 in the Big Ten) and has won at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title. The Wolverines have won 12 of their last 13, with their only stumble occurring last Saturday against Duke in a 68-63 loss. Michigan currently ranks No. 2 in ESPN’s BPI (Basketball Power Index) and No. 2 in the NCAA’s net rankings. Michigan has three remaining regular-season games (at No. 10 Illinois, at Iowa, vs. Michigan State).
Michigan Hockey: Currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, with rival Michigan State ranked at No. 1. The Wolverines are currently 25-6-1 on the season and 16-5-1 in Big Ten play. Michigan has two remaining regular-season games, both against Minnesota, a team they beat in the previous two contests this season.
