Joao Cancelo was back in the starting XI for Barcelona on Wednesday night in La Liga and back in the goals for Barcelona in their 7-2 win.
The Portugal international’s first goal came after just eight minutes and was an absolute stunner as he found the top corner from range. Cancelo admitted afterwards it’s the best goal he’s ever scored.
“It was the best goal of my career. And even more special because it was at this club. I wanted to come here since the beginning of last season,” he told reporters
afterwards.
“I haven’t had that many opportunities to start, but I always trained hard to help the team when needed. I needed this goal to gain more confidence. I achieved it. You need a little bit of luck, but the important thing is that the team won.”
Cancelo is battling Xavi Espart and Alejandro Balde for a starting spot currently and says the intense competition for places is a good thing.
“All the players are physically fit and ready to play. It’s important to have competition within the team; it’s healthy,” he added.
“We’re all aiming to win everything this year. It might happen, and we’re going to do everything we can to make it happen.”
Barcelona’s win maintains their perfect start to the season ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sevilla.
