The Philadelphia Eagles are losing practice squad cornerback Robert Longerbeam to the Atlanta Falcons, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
With the Falcons placing starter A.J. Terrell on injured reserve, Atlanta found themselves in need of corner help and decided to poach Longerbeam.
The Eagles have one of the NFL’s best corner trios with Quinyon Mitchell, Riq Woolen, and Cooper DeJean starting for them. It’s not like Longerbeam had a great pathway to playing time in Philly.
That
being said, he did seem like a nice developmental option to have around on the practice squad. We wrote as much when the Eagles signed him on September 1:
He missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury before making some noise in training camp/preseason games this summer. According to Pro Football Focus charting, Longerbeam allowed just an 84.2 passer rating while targeted in coverage. He finished the preseason as the Ravens’ third-best defender by PFF grading.
In a recent roundtable article over at Baltimore Beatdown, multiple Ravens writers brought up Longerbeam as a player they were concerned about getting claimed on waivers.
Bummer that the Eagles are losing Longerbeam (although I’m sure Robert Longbeam is happy about this development). But such is the nature of the practice squad.
