Bayern Munich may have needed a late push to secure a 2-1 victory over SV 07 Elversberg, but the statistics make it clear which team controlled the match.
Bayern Munich finished with a staggering 72% possession, compared to just 28% for Elversberg, while completely dominating the shot count. Vincent Kompany’s side attempted 28 shots to Elversberg’s five and registered six efforts on target. The expected goals numbers tell a similar story, with Bayern Munich producing 2.42 xG compared to Elversberg’s 0.94.
Bayern Munich recorded 65 touches inside the opposition penalty area, more than six times Elversberg’s total of 10. The visitors also earned nine corners to Elversberg’s three and created four big chances.
Perhaps the most impressive number was Bayern Munich’s passing. The reigning Bundesliga champions completed 754 passes at a 92% accuracy rate, compared to 245 completed passes at 76% for Elversberg.
There was one area where Bayern Munich could have been more clinical. The team missed three big chances, while Elversberg missed two. That lack of finishing efficiency allowed the hosts to remain competitive after Maurice Krattenmacher’s equalizer.
Ultimately, though, the numbers reinforce that Bayern Munich deserved all three points. This was not a match dominated by Elversberg’s pressure or Bayern Munich struggling to create opportunities. It was a game in which Bayern Munich controlled virtually every major statistical category and ultimately found a way to turn that dominance into a 2-1 victory.
That probably will not be enough to prevent fans from being unhappy, but it was enough for the win and a clean look at Union Berlin next week.
