One of the major storylines for Broncos Country to keep their eyes on as the regular season transpires is how this year’s offense performs. Over the past few seasons, the Broncos have ranked in the middle of the pack in most aspects on that side of the ball. In order to have a successful season and reach their ultimate goal, taking a big leap forward offensively is an absolute must.
A key focus for the team this offseason has been consistency in the run game. To help with that, they added rookie Jonah
Coleman in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Over the past few months, the offensive line has worked on their blocking techniques and some new schematic wrinkles.
To bolster their passing attack, Denver swung a big trade to bring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle into the fold. Waddle’s talent and big play dynamic should increase the overall efficiency of the offense. Moreover, his presence should help open up things for other players at the position like Courtland Sutton and second-year wideout Pat Bryant—who has been touted as a potential breakout player for the franchise in ‘26.
In addition to some new faces on offense, the Mile High City has a new play caller. That’ll be Offensive Coordinator Davis Webb who will be on the sidelines getting the play to Bo Nix and his teammates. Yesterday after practice, longtime left tackle Garett Bolles gave some insight on what Webb means to him and the offense.
“I love him. He’s been here for years now, so nothing’s really changed. I think just the relationship status he’s had. He’s played early on, he’s played in this league just a couple years ago, then he just retired. To have him with us and to have that player-style of coaching and knows what we go through and puts us in situations. The feelings he has, the ups and downs of the games that he understands, are tremendous,” stated Bolles.
Last season, many fans were perplexed by some of the offensive playcalling. There’s no doubt that Head Coach Sean Payton has a storied career as an offensive mind. During his time in New Orleans, he put together many top offenses with Drew Brees leading the way for the Saints.
However, a penchant for screen plays, a lack of dedication to the run, and some puzzling situational down decisions left many fans wanting more. In a surprise move this offseason, Payton announced at the NFL Combine he would be giving up that duty and allow Webb to call the shots.
Webb is considered one of the brightest young minds in football. A former third-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2017 NFL Draft, he spent six seasons in the league before retiring in 2022. In 2023, the Broncos hired him to be their quarterbacks coach, which he continued to do alongside his duties as offense’s pass game coordinator in 2025.
Ascending to Offensive Coordinator just seemed like a natural progression. In the preseason, we have seen a few glimpses and early visions of things to come. Though there is no doubt a lot of what is in store for the Broncos’ offense this season has been under wraps.
That’s what makes the upcoming season a bit more exciting than most. The mystery about what the Broncos’ offense will be and the heights they can reach if they put it all together. Bolles is steadfast in his belief that with Webb leading the way on offense—the best is yet to come.
“I’m super grateful for him, and I think offense hasn’t skipped a beat. I think we’re just right where we need to be, and he just brings that juice that we need and that extra juice. To have a guy like that in our corner and to get us in the right situations is tremendous for us.”
