Amidst all the talk of WrestleMania 43 and the millions Turki Al-Sheikh is reportedly offering to make 2027’s Showcase of the Immortals in Riyadh as star-studded as possible, Shawn Michaels name has been bandied about as someone who might accept a big payday to come out of retirement for a match in Saudi Arabia about a year-and-a-half from now.
But in a visit to Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco Johnson’s Nightcap set in Las Vegas for the Terence Crawford/Canelo Alvarez fight on Netflix tonight (Sept.
13), Michaels shut that talk down:
“Not a chance…
”I’m so blessed and so fortunate to have done what I’ve done. But, I’m so overjoyed to be doing what I do now and helping the future of WWE, and to be part of that. NXT is just thriving on Tuesday nights on CW Network. To help these young men and women to achieve their passions, and their dreams is something that I had no idea I’d enjoy this much, but it is so great. I think the business is in tremendous hands for the future.”
The Hall of Famer revealed a bit of why when talking about why he wouldn’t change a thing about his career, even with another major surgery on the horizon:
“I have had my back fused. I’ve had my shoulder replaced. I got two knees that I’m getting replaced in, probably a month. And I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. Again, I knew that going in, as you guys did. I knew the price that was going to come along with it. When I worked on the road, we did 286 days. When I got a part-time schedule, it was 150 days [laughs]. I enjoyed every minute…”
The man in charge of WWE NXT and the Developmental Program (which his friend and boss revealed — on this same show — will be getting a facilities upgrade) went on to talk about the support he received in the back half of his career from his wife and kids.
We doubt they’d be thrilled to see old H-B-Shizzle lace up in Riyadh for a check he doesn’t need, so we’re guessing this sticks. But we shall see.
