Bayern Munich did not have a crazy summer (in fact, some would argue that it was more defined by who the club did not get than who it actually signed), but it was an effective one.
In all, the club brought
in the following players:
- Jonathan Tah: In need of a starting center-back, the signing was bemoaned by many, but Tah has produced, A steady influence on Dayot Upamecano, Tah has brought experience, leadership, and stability to the backline at a time where all of those things are desperately needed. Tah was a free transfer (aside of the early arrival cost for the Club World Cup).
- Luis Díaz: The former Liverpool man was a wild card of an acquisition. There were doubts about how he would fit or even if he had anything left in the tank. Boy, were those things not the case. Díaz, aside of some questionable finishing at times, has been great. A perfect fit for what Bayern Munich needed at wing, the Colombian has been a great addition. Díaz has 13 goals and seven assists in 22 games across all competitions so far this season.
- Tom Bischof: The young midfielder was a consistent starter for Hoffenheim last season and a longtime target of Bayern Munich. A free (minus the Club World Cup fee) transfer, Bischof was a move for the future. Bischof has not yet asserted himself in the central midfield, instead being used mostly out of position as a left-back. So far, it does not appear as if Bischof has impressed Vincent Kompany enough to earn those minute in the midfield. Hopefully, that will change soon.
