I know we’re all sort of just refreshing the news right now to see who will get cut and who will be kept by the Green Bay Packers, so I wanted to open a discussion post for us to talk about the roster cutdown generally. Feel free to drop your own 53-man roster prediction in the comments section or talk about individual players.
You can find my latest roster projection HERE. If you missed the game on Friday night, this is my recap of what I thought was relevant from a preseason finale that mostly featured
reserves in action.
So have at it. Who do you think makes the team? Your answer can be as short or as long as you want it to be.
I think the real X factor this year is whether the Packers will actually use both of their injured reserve designations this season, as there don’t appear to be too many candidates. For now, Green Bay seems relatively healthy. The IR timeline also overlaps with Micah Parsons not being on the field, and I’m not sure how short-handed the Packers can afford to be in the first month or so of the season.
As a reminder, Green Bay needs to be down to a 53-man active roster by Sunday at 5 pm CT, but that doesn’t include players who are either suspended (currently, this doesn’t apply to anyone on the Packers’ roster) or on the injury lists. The team has the opportunity to place two players straight on the injured reserve with a designated-to-return tag, eliminating the need for a player to be waived (with an injury designation) and pass through waivers before reverting to the injured reserve — which was the case until recently.
