The Arizona Fall League is already in its third week, and the White Sox have nine prospects in action, headlined by OF Braden Montgomery (White Sox No. 1/MLB No. 35) and LHP Hagen Smith (No. 5/No. 88).
Rounding out the crew: IF Sam Antonacci (No. 11), RHP Tyler Davis, IF Ryan Galanie, RHP Carson Jacobs, OF Caden Connor, RHP Connor McCullough and RHP Jarold Rosado.
The White Sox hopefuls are playing for the Glendale Desert Dogs, sharing the dugout with players from the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays.
Unfortunately, the Dogs are pretty bad. They went 1-5 last week, dropping their overall record to 4-11. However, there were some positives to highlight, specifically for Chicago’s prospects.
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025: Surprise Saguaros 6, Desert Dogs 3 (7 innings) Game 1
Montgomery’s debut was the headline, and he delivered. The 22-year-old went 1-for-1, including a 388-foot, 110.2-mph rocket for an RBI double, and three walks for good measure. He lost the end of his minor league season to a busted foot, but you wouldn’t know it. The arm strength is plus, the swing is even louder, and it looks like he’s back to business. Montgomery hit .270/.360/.444 across three stops in 2025.
The other Sox hitters who saw some action included Antonacci (2-for-4), Connor (2-for-4, RBI) and Galanie (0-for-1, K).
On the mound, Rosado shut the door, getting two outs and a strikeout to finish it.
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025: Surprise Saguaros 6, Desert Dogs 4 (7 innings) Game 2
Antonacci and Connor continued to swing a hot bat for the Dogs.
Antonacci went 1-for-1 with three walks and three stolen bases. He also launched his second AFL homer out to right in the seventh.
Connor was 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a base on balls. Galanie, batting in the 3-spot, managed a single but also wore a K.
Jacobs tossed 1 1/3 scoreless frames, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025: Peoria Javelinas 10, Desert Dogs 6
The offense would like to burn the tape on this one: Antonacci, Montgomery, and Connor went a combined 0-for-10, though at least Montgomery and Connor drew a couple of walks each. In the field, Antonacci and Connor both threw the ball away, with Connor’s error leading to an unearned run.
Smith, after two strong starts, finally hit a speed bump, yielding three runs on two hits in three innings, including a two-run shot to Brandon Winokur. Still, seven Ks and just one walk is nothing to sneeze at, especially given Smith’s control issues in 2025. If Smith can keep the walks down, he’ll be just fine.
McCullough took over for Smith in the fourth, and the Rafters hit him hard for four runs on three hits and two walks. This AFL run is likely McCullough’s audition to see if he’s worthy of a 40-man spot, but with a 12.79 ERA the clock is about to strike midnight for the 26-year-old.
Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025: Salt River Rafters 16, Desert Dogs 6
Galanie was the lone Sox bat in this contest, going 1-for-5 with a double and two strikeouts. He’s scuffling in the AFL, but he did hit .276/.327/.422 with a .749 OPS during the regular season, splitting time between Winston-Salem and Birmingham.
Rosado has settled in since getting lit up for four earned runs in his first AFL appearance (October 8). The righthander hasn’t allowed an earned run over his last four outings. In this game he threw 1 1/3, giving up only one hit and one K. On the other hand, opponents are getting to Davis, and it wasn’t any different in this contest. He couldn’t get through the eighth inning, and he allowed four runs on two walks and four hits, including a two-run bomb.
Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025: Peoria Javelinas 11, Desert Dogs 2
Chicago had four bats in the lineup, and it was more good news for Montgomery. The South Siders’ No. 1 prospect went 2-for-4, including an RBI base hit and a stolen base. Antonacci went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a walk. He also swiped his eighth bag. Galanie (1-for-4) had a knock, and Connor was 0-for-4 with a K.
Sunday, October 26, 2025: Desert Dogs 10, Salt River Rafters 4
Montgomery closed out his first AFL week going 1-for-3 with two walks and two steals. That’s three bags for the week and a .364/.611/.455 line. If he keeps this up, he’ll be penciled in for a roster spot come 2026, Colson-style.
Davis’ struggles continued, giving up a run on a wild pitch, two hits, and a walk. He did manage three strikeouts, for what it’s worth.
