You don’t get opportunities like this very often.
If you’d asked most Mizzou fans at the beginning of the year, the opportunity to play spoiler to Oklahoma’s seemingly iron clad College Football Playoff
case would’ve been… let’s call it a secondary goal. I think most of us were hoping this game would be more of a proving ground for the Tigers, one in which they could enter on equal footing with their long-time rivals from back in the halcyon days of the Big XII. But alas, here we are. Looking up at those big ugly crimson and cream dorks again.
In the old days, going to Oklahoma used to be a joyless slog, another guaranteed loss in an endless stream of 7 and 8 win seasons. Now, though, the Tigers find themselves a bit more positioned to play the spoiler. Oklahoma’s case for the CFP is strong, though not totally impenetrable. A loss to No. 23 Missouri would not only poke serious holes in their own candidacy, it might introduce some more chaos into the mix that could end up boding well for the Tigers. That’s the longest of long shots, but hey. What else do the Tigers have to play for right now?
So let’s throw this season into the blender and see what comes out, shall we? No time like the present to end a decades-old losing streak in the Sooner State.
