Vacancies in the TCU men’s basketball backcourt continue to grow after redshirt freshman guard Ashton Simmons announced his declaration for the transfer portal late Tuesday evening. Simmons, a former three-star recruit from Beaumont, Texas, redshirted in his first year with the program, but was unable to crack the rotation as a second-year player, appearing in just five games and registering only 19 minutes. The 6-foot-3 guard, who was the No. 14 player in Texas out of high school, will leave the Horned
Frogs with three years of eligibility left.
Simmons signed with TCU over Texas A&M, GCU, North Texas and more. The redshirt freshman becomes the fourth Horned Frog to declare for the portal, joining redshirt sophomore Jace Posey, redshirt sophomore RJ Jones and true freshman guard Kayden ‘Bugg’ Edwards. Simmons finished the season with averages of 1.0 points, 0.6 rebounds and o.2 assists per game. His season high was three points against Saint Francis.
