We
get Trey Yesavage making his first MLB start tonight. I thought we’d look at a few of the last top prospect starters did in their first MLB start:
- Alek Manoah made his first start May 27th, 2021. He had a great start, six innings, no runs, two hits, two walks with seven strikeouts. He didn’t even hit a batter.
- Yariel Rodríguez (not sure if he hits the top prospect definition). He made his first start April 13th last year. He went 3.2 innings allowing four hits, one earned, two walks with six strikeouts.
- Nate Pearson made his first start July 29th, 2020. He went 5 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, two walks with five strikeouts.
- Ryan Borucki made his first start June 26th, 2018. He went 6 innings allowing six hits, two earned, four walks with three strikeouts.
- Anthony Kay made his first start August 7th, 2019. He went 5.2 allowing four hits, three walks, two earned with eight strikeouts.
- Sean Reid-Foley made his first start August 13th, 2018. He went 5 innings, six hits, three earned, three walks and 3 strikeouts.
- Marcus Stroman made his first start May 4th, 2014 (he had pitched five times in relief before then). He went 6 innings, allowing five hits, one earned, no walks with six strikeouts.
- Drew Hutchison made his first start April 21st, 2012. He went 5.1, allowing eight hits, five earned, three walks and four strikeouts.
- Matthew Boyd made his first start June 27th, 2015. He went 6.2 innings, allowing nine hits, four earned, no walks and seven strikeouts.
- Dustin McGowan made his first start July 30th, 2005. He went 5.0 innings, allowing two hits, one earned, three walks and six strikeouts.
- Ricky Romero made his first start April 9th, 2009. He went 6 innings, allowing seven hits, two earned, two walks, and five strikeouts.
- Kyle Drabek made his first start September 15th (hmm). He went 6 innings, allowing nine hits, three earned, three walks and five strikeouts.
- Brett Cecil made his first start May 5th, 2009. He went 6 innings allowed six hits, one earned, no walks and six strikeouts.
- Henderson Alvarez III made his first start August 10th, 2011. He went 5.2, allowed eight hits, three earned, one walk and four strikeouts.
Let’s have a contest. Guess the number of innings, hits, earned runs and strikeouts Trey Yesavage has today. Winner gets the admiration of all Bluebird Banterers. What could be better than that?
I’ll go with 4 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned, 4 strikeouts.
