Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho spoke to Real Nadrid TV after the team’s 1-0 pre-season friendly win over La Liga rivals Deportivo A Coruña, explaining that, “it was a serious match against a team returning to La Liga, this trophy has a long tradition so they gave it their all and forced us to play seriously”.
The result, courtesy of a Brahim Díaz goal, meant that Real Madrid won the Trofeo Teresa Herrera for the first time since they were last involved in 2013, as the team’s penultimate friendly
before La Liga starts next week.
Mourinho on substitutions
“I have to make changes; I don’t want to give the same players too many minutes. Today, Fede and Arda only played 45 minutes. This match is about winning, but even more about working and testing things out. And what I like is that in a game like this, with changes to the lineup and formation, the team played to get a result.”
Mourinho on what he learned
“We’ll have many games like this in La Liga, and we won it without running it into the ground. You know the five who are at Valdebebas. And next week, the real work begins.”
Mourinho on pre-season
“The difficulty of the matches, as we’ve organised them, is building up. We know what these tournaments are like. It’s worth what it’s worth for the home team. Competing like this is very good training for us.”
