Bayern Munich has been trying to get its academy program going for a while. Will this be a season the youth-to-senior team pipeline takes another step forward?
The latest youth talent to catch the spotlight is winger Lennart Karl. The 17-year-old talent’s playing time opportunities looked ample earlier in the summer, after the departure of Leroy Sané. The late arrival of Nicolas Jackson, who is expected to be deployed all over the front line, could change things, however.
Honorary president and executive
board member Uli Hoeneß weighed in and called for patience while emphasizing head coach Vincent Kompany’s desire to integrate the youngsters.
“Lennart Karl is a great player, he’s only 17. It’s impossible without a coach [that gives them game time],” Hoeneß relayed in comments for Sport1 Doppelpass (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “He [Kompany] has promised us that he will bring in a few [young] players over the course of the season.”
The pressure to win will be on, as always. We will see how much Karl and others can break through.
